“For his abandoned and forgotten works, the sorcerer Yen Sid long ago constructed the Cartoon Wasteland, a pen-and-paper realm with a Disney theme park theme that was kept on a table and accessible by a mirror.”
When Mickey enters Yen Sid’s study through a mirror from his home, he sees the model and waits for Yen Sid to leave before returning to have another look. Mickey inadvertently splatters paint and paint thinner upon the model while tinkering with it. When Mickey hears Yen Sid coming, he immediately tidies up and runs back to his house. The Phantom Blot, a creature created by the paint and paint thinner accident, attempts to overthrow Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, Mickey’s older half-brother and the first resident of the Wasteland. The Phantom Blot battles Oswald and the other inhabitants of the Cartoon Wasteland, but he eventually defeats them and transforms their world into a dark and evil version of itself, forcing Oswald into hiding.
When his home’s mirror comes to life and drags him into the Cartoon Wasteland, years later, Mickey has forgotten about his earlier mistake. Due to his resentment of Mickey’s success, Oswald has devised a strategy to eliminate Mickey. The Mad Doctor and the Blot collaborate closely to produce robotic “Beetleworx,” which are odd creatures made up of mashups of different Disney animation characters. Additionally, he fashions animatronic “buddies” for Oswald who resemble aged robotic clones of Mickey’s friends since Oswald wants Mickey’s fame and way of life for himself. Mickey must defeat the Phantom Blot, win over Oswald, and save the Cartoon Wasteland while armed with a magical paintbrush that he was able to bring into the world with him.
